Why “Povera”?

Povera, meaning “poor” in Italian, draws its inspiration from the belief that creating is a fundamentally receptive act.
Creating demands a posture of “poor receptivity” that is open to the Holy Spirit and to the truth and beauty present in reality. Yet this posture is not only necessary for the artist, but for each of us, if we truly wish to give attention to the wonders present in our everyday realities.
This small pottery studio is my humble attempt to invite you into this “poverty”. A poverty that opens and frees one to recognize and receive the profound gift and richness of our lives.
Whether drinking your coffee or blessing your children with holy water, I hope that these pieces, slowly and carefully handcrafted, serve to remind you of the tireless offer of Love made to you in every moment.

Thank you for being here.
